World Toilet Day: Making the invisible visible!

Worldwide, 3.6 billion people do not have access to toilets or sanitation. When sanitation systems are inadequate, human waste spills into rivers, lakes and soils, polluting the water resources beneath our feet. This problem appears to be invisible, as it takes place underground. It mainly affects the poorest and most marginalized communities.

Groundwater is the most abundant source of fresh water. They supply drinking water distribution systems. Worldwide, at least two billion people drink water contaminated with feces.

Every day, more than 800 children under the age of five die of diarrhea due to drinking unsafe water, poor sanitation and poor hygiene.

Morija operates in rural and peri-urban areas of Burkina Faso. In these regions, drinking water and sanitation needs are greatest.

With our WASH Sakoula project, we help the population to improve sustainable access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation and hygiene practices and waste management of the population.

Dry latrines are built with hand washing devices. Hygiene trainers are trained to share good hygiene and sanitation practices as close as possible to rural populations.
