International Day of Rural Women

The presence of rural women is particularly important in certain regions of the world, notably in Africa, Asia and Latin America. They represent between 20% and 50% of the active agricultural population on these continents, with a predominance in Africa and Asia.

Their work is essential for their community.

Despite this marked investment, rural women are often victims of discrimination that has a direct impact on their living conditions. They do not have access to land and livestock ownership and to a decent income like men.

Therefore, it is essential that rural women have a recognized place within the agricultural population because they play an important role in the fight against poverty and hunger.

Thanks to greater recognition, agricultural production would increase by 2.5% to 4% thanks to the improvement of their living conditions and people in a situation of undernourishment would decrease by 12 to 17%.

New opportunities for rural women in Nobéré thanks to the Morija CFB project

In Burkina Faso, rural women cultivate land that they often do not own and over which they do not have decision-making power.

Morija has set up the Family bocage fields project. The cultivable field belongs to the whole family and the woman takes part in the decisions. Employment contracts are also established for women working in the family fields.

In addition to the enhanced status of women, the CFB project allows mothers to considerably improve the diet and quality of life of their children.
