114 million people were forced to leave their homes…

In 2023, the world is witnessing a harrowing humanitarian crisis. According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 114 million people were forced to leave their homes by the end of September. The reasons for these massive displacements in the first half of 2023 are multiple, ranging from the war in Ukraine, to ongoing conflicts in Sudan, Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Myanmar, to devastating natural disasters and insecurity in Somalia…(UN)

Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, underlines the shared responsibility of the international community in this tragedy.

It is important to note that low- and middle-income countries host the vast majority of refugees. The number of new individual asylum applications reached a record high of 1.6 million in the first six months of 2023 (UN).

During the same period, nearly 2.7 million internally displaced people managed to return home, a number more than double the previous year. Humanitarian organizations play an essential role in providing regular food assistance to those who urgently need it. (UN)

At the heart of this crisis of global conflicts, Morija is a leading actor in Burkina Faso, among other organizations, to help internally displaced people, whose number exceeds 2 million today. The sometimes desperate situation of these families can be taken into account thanks to the mobilization of donors and partners. In a world where staggering numbers continue to climb, Morija emphasizes the importance of reaching out to those in need and working together for a more peaceful future.

You can show your solidarity with displaced people fleeing conflicts by donating to our Humanitarian Aid projects for Burkina Faso. Morija distributes food and emergency supplies to families who have no other means of subsistence, until they can return to their homes.
