Saving Lives in Burkina Faso: Morija Defies the Humanitarian Crisis with Your Support

On November 23rd last year, Morija teams, in collaboration with our partner Asaren in Burkina Faso, issued an urgent alert regarding a new wave of internally displaced persons arriving in Yagma, a peri-urban area of the capital Ouagadougou.

A total of 604 people, including 382 children, had to flee their native village of Tilga, located 150 km from Ouagadougou. Death threats from armed terrorist groups forced these families to abandon their homes and everything they owned to seek refuge in a safer region.

They now live in the open and reside wherever they can. They have found security, but they have lost everything. Faced with this human tragedy, Asaren and Morija immediately combined their efforts and resources to address the urgent needs of these vulnerable families.

On December 19th, thanks to the generosity of our donors, they received a distribution of food and essential products. Each household received 25 kg of rice, 5 kg of sugar, 5 kg of oil, as well as mats and blankets to face the cool December nights in Burkina Faso. This rapid intervention provided immediate relief, but the needs remain significant, and unfortunately, the influx of people tends to increase.

The humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso bears the deep imprint of barbaric acts committed against already vulnerable populations. Amnesty International recently revealed, in a report dated November 2, 2023, the horrors experienced by civilian populations in the Sahel region, titled “Death Was Watching Us: Living in Besieged Localities in Burkina Faso.” Armed groups, with complete impunity, violate human rights, committing war crimes, including the killing of civilians, the abduction of women and girls, and targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure and supply convoys. It is the role of NGOs involved closest to reality to warn, inform, and assist.

Morija is extensively involved in direct support despite the risks, continuing its humanitarian actions to alleviate the suffering of the population.

The challenges are numerous, but together, we can contribute to lightening the burden of these persecuted populations. Join our efforts, donate to our humanitarian projects, and help bring some comfort and hope to those who need it most.
