In 2023, the humanitarian situation in the Sahel remained concerning, with increased armed conflicts, population displacement, and food insecurity. In Burkina Faso, violence led to the displacement of over 2 million people. Faced with this challenge, Morija intensified its humanitarian efforts, particularly in the commune of Ourgou Manéga and the village of Lindi.
Morija’s action, initially focused on emergency humanitarian aid, has diversified to improve long-term living conditions. The organization assists internally displaced persons by promoting coexistence and collaboration with host populations. Initiatives include raising awareness of hygiene rules, constructing and rehabilitating boreholes to ensure access to water, and providing administrative support for the regularization of displaced persons’ situations.
Mr. Ouermi, a displaced person from the commune of Rollé, recounts: “We fled our village attacked by armed individuals and found refuge in Lindi. The local population welcomed us and helped us settle. Thanks to Morija, we received food and support. We hope to reintegrate socially and economically while waiting to return home.”
Thanks to the generosity of donors and the hard work of local teams, Morija restores hope and dignity to thousands of vulnerable people.
