Bad weather and harvests from North to South

It did not escape you, the rain fell in abundance this summer in Switzerland. Exceptional floods were observed throughout the country. This abnormal weather for the season has an impact on vegetable crops. In parts of Switzerland, crop yields have fallen by as much as 50%.
Supermarkets are forced to source from abroad to overcome this poor harvest in Switzerland. Despite everything, the prices remain rather stable.

From North to south

In West Africa, where Morija operates, the rainy season is underway and usually lasts until the end of August or even later. In Burkina Faso, the farmers that our teams meet are unanimous: “In general, and for several years, the rainy seasons have been more hieratic and less predictable. Precipitation is more violent when it arrives, but also more scattered. “
According to meteorologists, during the rest of the year, the region could be affected by erratic and extreme rainfall. Prolonged droughts and short, intense rainfall could endanger crops and therefore food security.
In the poor regions of the Sahel, agriculture is often the only means of subsistence, natural disasters wreak havoc among already very vulnerable populations.
This is why Morija provides them with material and technical assistance in order to consolidate their livelihoods to improve their capacity for resilience.
