Every year, August 19 marks World Humanitarian Day. It is an opportunity to pay tribute to the humanitarian workers who help millions of people around the world every day, despite the dangers. These are unfortunately the cause each year of many injuries or deaths while providing essential services and protection to those who need them most. Courage and altruism are their watchwords.
A large number of NGOs are working around the world against the effects of climate change, which are causing more and more devastation. Indeed, the climate emergency has become the leading cause of population displacement. Among them, those most affected by these changes are often those who, paradoxically, have contributed the least to climate disorder: the most vulnerable and the poorest on the planet.
The Sahel, one of the most affected regions
According to specialists, the Sahel is one of the regions where climate change is most felt. Droughts, lack of precipitation, natural disasters, food stress due to bad harvests… become the common lot of the inhabitants of these already very poor regions.
Morija is active in the humanitarian and development cooperation community, and aims to help vulnerable populations, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. It provides support in collaboration with local partners who share its values.
In recent years, Morija has had to deal with an increased need for help in the field. This would not be possible without the dedication of humanitarian personnel who deserve to be thought of during this day of August 19.
