Cocoa good for the environment

Morija launched with its partner Avenir de l’Environnement (ADE) in 2017, a project to promote Agroforestry for cocoa cultivation in Togo. In the Kpalimé region, where 80% of the population depends on agriculture, the land is little exploited and the yield is low due to the lack of equipment, financial resources and knowledge of agronomy. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers and irresponsible deforestation have deteriorated the ecosystem.

Morija and Agroforestry

Agroforestry is an ancient farming method that combines food and fruit cultivation with fertilizer trees. This inexpensive approach stabilizes the soil, improves its fertility, fights against erosion and optimizes agricultural yields. By combining tree planting with cocoa cultivation, Morija offers farmers a profitable and environmentally friendly alternative.

This win-win approach promotes the preservation of nature while reducing the use of expensive chemical inputs, which improves the profitability of cocoa crops.

The objective of the Agroforestry project of Morija is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the families of cocoa producers in Kpalimé. By providing them with the necessary know-how and the right equipment, Morija helps them to adopt sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Thanks to agroforestry, yields are improved, allowing farmers to increase their income and support their families.
